Autumn Rally Spalding
Wednesday 13th - Monday 18th September 2017
Rally Report - I.C.A Autumn Rally 2017
We were last at The Lawns, at Gebdyke, four years ago and Mollie & David Gowing were our Rally Leaders then, so they knew what a great site this is for rallies. Since that visit the owners, Nigel & Tracy, have spent much time, and money, in enhancing the fields. New road surfaces have been laid and mini pull-ins for cars in front of each pitch. This is help in preventing rutting of the immaculate grass surface.
The First evening a ‘Get Together’, with wine, of course. Meet friends old and new.
Day two had those of the Council of Management tied up most of the day, but all complete for our Welcome Roast Dinner. We knew, from our previous visit, that the quality would be excellent and the quantity generous, and so it was. Roast Pork and all the trimmings followed by a selection of the sweets that Tracy is famous for…..not for the diet conscious though.
Day three, Friday, a free day and most enjoyed fish and chips brought on site for eating in the ‘van’. This was followed by a small group playing ‘Fun Crazy Whist’, as many had not played whist for many a year this really was fun. The winner was Pat Potter.
Day four, Saturday, a morning with Sales Tables initially followed by Coffee & Cakes and a day shopping. The evening we had what was billed as ‘Entertainment in the Hall. This started with Trevor Butler doing his ‘Live at the Apollo’ script and thereafter numerous stories flowed from members, some humorous, some not so! This was followed by Caravan ‘Beetle’, fast and furious dice shaking and requests that those drawing Eriba’s should have to throw a 7 to start because of the pop-up roof! During the evening wine was served in Happy Hour tradition.
Day five, Sunday, following a day shopping in the various local towns, Kings Lynn ,Wisbech, Spalding and Holbeach being favourites. We had our final meal, another Carvery from the kitchens of Nigel & Tracy, Beef this time. Nobody went home hungry is the most appropriate statement we can make and all appreciated the effort they had put into the catering, again Wine was served.
The envelope quiz, based on Dingbats, created much merriment as many have difficulties with this form of problem solving; however, David and Pauline Hirst proved to be experts and won the prize at the end of the rally.
Some had already left for pastures new, at the weekend, but many departed South, cross Counties, to Suffolk for the follow-on, having had an excellent rally thanks to Mollie & David assisted by our Chairman Mike and Heather.

P.S. Many thanks to everyone who bought home produce in support of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. Due to your generosity we raised £20 which will be gratefully received by them. Great rally, good company and excellent food. Here's to the next one!!
