Autumn Rally

Tuesday 11th - Monday 17th October 2016

Whitehead Forest Park in the Forest of Dean was the venue for the Autumn Rally. Our rally hosts, Doris and Charles and Stella and Roger warmly welcomed everyone. Whitehead Forest Park is in a beautiful setting in the Forest of Dean with excellent facilities and an abundance of walks and trails to explore from the site. On the first evening we had a get together in the hall where we rekindled old friendships and made new ones.

The following day was a free day, although there was a guided walk in the forest organised by the site. That evening we had a 'Curry and Race Night' where one could bet on the horses and then watch them race on a large screen. It was very popular with all, some having more luck than others!!

Thursday we had a rally and tour presentation, which I'm glad to say, included new rallies for 2017 and 2018. Doris gave a wonderful presentation of her Alaskan Rally, whilst Sandy gave some helpful advice and hints to anyone thinking of organising a rally for the first time.

Friday morning was the council of management meeting. Whilst some of us enjoyed the sites free indoor pool, sauna and gym others visited the various local attractions. The day ended with a meal and an entertaining Elton John tribute show.

On the final day a visit was organised to the Dean Valley Railway. This included
a ride on the steam train from Park End to Lydney junction. We travelled in the buffet car where we were served tea, coffee and a selection of delicious homemade cakes which, added to the lovely scenery, made for a very pleasant journey. Some of us then walked along the banks of the Severn estuary to Lydney Harbour which afforded wonderful views across the river Severn, before returning by train to Parkend.

The rally ended with an enjoyable final dinner, a presentation to our leaders and the opportunity to say our goodbyes to those leaving early the next morning. Altogether a good rally much enjoyed, in a beautiful part of the country, the weather being kind to us throughout. Thank you Doris and Charles, Stella and Roger.
